TVET Torch Relay reaches Makueni in countrywide tour

The Torch Relay arrives in Makueni.

The TVET Torch Relay has reached Makueni County in its countrywide tour before coming to the cradle of technical training in Kenya, The Kabete National Polytechnic.

Speaking at Makindu town when she received the TVET torch from Coast region on its way to Northern/Nairobi regions, Deputy Governor (DG) Lucy Mulili commended TVET achievements over the years, saying they are worthy celebrating.

Mulili called upon youth to enroll in technical institutes to acquire skills which will help them to be self-reliant.

She observed that enrollment in these institutes escalated when the uniform rule was discarded.

“We dropped the uniforms since you could find grown-ups who were not comfortable with it and could end up dropping out of the institutes. I can proudly say the enrollment started rising,” Mulili said.

Makueni County DG Lucy Mulili speaks after receiving the TVET torch from Coast region chairperson Steven Ngome.

Taita Taveta National Polytechnic Principal Steven Ngome, who is the chairperson of the Coast region, said the youth will benefit greatly as they acquire the necessary skills.

“Use the skills acquired to make you independent. Take what you are doing seriously and know that TVETs offers the best,” Ngome said as he officially handed over the torch.

Chairperson of Northern region Justin Muindu noted that the relay will increase enrollment into TVETs.

Wote Technical Training Institute Principal Joshua Munywoki, who was coordinating the events, said the objective is to make TVET known to the public as part of the wider sensitization.

The event was attended by most principals in northern/Nairobi regions and other education stakeholders.
