Parents in Machakos asked to enroll children for vocational training

In a bold initiative to combat youth idleness and social vices, Machakos County is encouraging parents to enroll their children in technical institutions.

Machakos County Education Machakos County Executive Committee Member for Education Consolata Mutisya announced the county’s commitment to vocational education, highlighting the significant progress made in equipping these institutions.

She pointed out that the youth stand to gain marketable skills that will help them create employment opportunities and achieve financial independence.

“Machakos County has taken impressive strides in transforming our vocational training centres into hubs of skills and innovations,” Mutisya stated.

“Rather than allowing your children to engage in detrimental activities such as muguka chewing, drug abuse, or crime, guide them towards a productive path by enrolling them in our vocational training centres,” she added.

According to the minister, these centres welcome all individuals who can read and write, offering a wide range of courses in fields like beauty and therapy, plumbing, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, masonry, and more.

She said that some courses are designed to be completed in just three months, providing quick and practical paths to employment.

“Our diverse courses ensure that there is something for everyone, tailored to meet the demands of the job market and the interests of our youth,” Mutisya noted.

She also emphasized that vocational training is a critical component of the county’s development agenda.

“Skill acquisition not only benefits the individual but also contributes significantly to the community’s growth and prosperity by investing in vocational education, Machakos County is paving the way for a brighter future for its youth,” she noted.
