Makadara Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti who was shot by a police on June 13, 2024 at 1.50pm at the court premises is dead.
This is according to a family source and her colleagues who did not wish to be quoted by the media confirmed to one of the local media that the magistrate died Friday around 11pm at Metropolitan Buruburu where had been transferred after the shooting incident as a result of gun injuries.
Kivuti was shot at Makadara Law Courts after she made a ruling in a case involving a senior policeman’s wife who is based in Londiani.
According to the information from the Judiciary, the magistrate had “cancelled the bond for an accused person who had jumped bond and had failed to offer satisfactory explanations for jumping bond”.

“Immediately this decision was pronounced, a person shot at the Magistrate and injured her on the hip,” the judiciary said in a statement.
The senior police officer, identified as Chief Inspector Samson Kipchirchir Kipruto, who was in charge of a police station in Londiani in Kericho, pulled out a gun and shot the magistrate, injuring her which prompted other officers present in court to respond immediately which saw the officer killed on the spot.
In the process, three other officers were injured, a police report said.
The court hearing was taking place in a tent outside the court premises due to lack of space.
In the case, the slain police officer wife is accused of obtaining money by false pretence amounting to KSh2.9 million.
As per the sources the body of the deceased magistrate has been since moved to Lee Funeral Home.
