First Lady Rachel Ruto launches digital hub at Butere Girls in Kakamega

First Lady Rachel Ruto launches the Jitume Digital Hub at Butere Girls High School in Kakamega on June 10, 2024.

The First Lady Rachel Ruto on Monday June 10 officially opened a digital skills laboratory at Butere Girls High School in Kakamega, a project that was implemented by the Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy through the Konza Technopolis.

The First Lady said the Digital Centre will accelerate the process of learners becoming earners by activating digitized and online jobs.

“Being tech-savvy is crucial for success in virtually every aspect of life, and we must equip our young people with the skills they need to thrive in the job market and be productive,” Mama Rachel said.

Eliud Owalo, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy who was in the company of the First Lady said that over 400,000 youth have been trained and over 139,000 digital jobs have been created in the last year.

Other leaders present at the visit included Ayub Savula, the Deputy Governor of Kakamega County, Justice Hellen Wasilwa the Board of Management Chairperson of Butere Girls High School and education sector stakeholders from the county.
