First cohort of KCB 2jiajiri beneficiaries in Elgeyo Marakwet to graduate tomorrow

The first cohort of 2jiajiri Youth Empowerment Programme which kicked off in June last year with hundreds of youth undertaking various technical courses in a number of Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) in Elgeyo Marakwet will graduate tomorrow.

The programme dubbed as Kazi kwa Mpango is sponsored by the county government through the department of sports, youth affairs, culture, children and social services in collaborations with the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Foundation with an aim of formalizing the informal sector through skilling and up skilling and has benefitted over 500 students in the county.

In the graduation event that took place at Iten Sports ground saw students from nine VTCs graduate with certificates.

The institutions were Chesongoch, Koitilial, Kitany, Chepkorio, Kapsabet, Iten, Chabara, Kiplabai, and Kapcherop VTC.

2jiajiri programme offers a wide range of artisan courses, including motor vehicle mechanics, food processing, ARC welding & fabrications, electric installation, food technology, masonry, tailoring, plumbing & pipework, carpentry & joinery, shoe making & leather work, hair dressing & and beauty therapy, garment making (tailoring & dress making), and electrical wiremen.

The trainees who graduated today were examined by credible examination bodies such as the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) and the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), which enable one to secure employment anywhere, even outside the country.
