Teachers in West Pokot asked to apply to be moved to JSS

West Pokot JSS teachers during a recent retooling exercise. Primary school teachers in the county did not apply to be moved to JSS.

West Pokot TSC Deputy County Director Joseph Musyoka has appealed to primary school teachers who meet requisite threshold to teach in Junior Secondary School (JSS) to apply for redeployment.

Speaking during the closing ceremony of a 5-day training of JSS teachers at Nasokol Girls Secondary School, Musyoka wondered why only 13 applied when TSC advertised 6000 slots in the area.

In order to qualify for such a position, one should:

  1. Be an active TSC registered teacher
  2. Be employed as a primary school teacher
  3. Should not be serving an interdiction or undergoing a disciplinary process
  4. Have a diploma in education with at least C+ in two teaching subjects
  5. Have a bachelor’s degree in education in Arts or Science discipline with C+ in two teaching subjects
  6. Have a postgraduate diploma in education with two teaching subjects
  7. Must have received CBC training
  8. Teachers who joined the university with C plain but took a bridging course before pursuing a degree course in Education are also eligible
  9. Hearing and visually impaired teachers who enrolled for a diploma in education with a mean grade of C plain in two teaching subjects are eligible.

Some Teachers interviewed on condition of anonymity questioned why they were being asked to shoulder an extra burden while they are paid the same amount.
