Rift Valley clinches teachers’ colleges Athletics Championship title at Machakos TTC

Runners from Rift Valley region dominated at the Kenya Teachers Colleges Sports Association National Athletics Championship as curtains came down on the athletics disciplines, paving way for ball games which will run up to June 12.

The championship, which kicked off on June 3 at Machakos Teachers Training College, has seen institutions from Rift Valley region win by a huge margin over their counterparts in different regions.

In the female category, the region gathered a total of 299 points winning 19 gold medals, seven silver, and six bronze medals. Altogether, Rift Valley region bagged 32 medals.

Male participants from the region took 273 points with 15 gold, 11 silver, and four bronze medals totalling to 30 medals.

Competitors run for the finish line as athletics came to an end to give way to ball games in the intercollegiate games in Machakos.

Overall, Rift Valley has 572 points with 34 gold, 18 silver, and 10 bronze medals bringing the total medals to 62.

Eastern region is second placed with 274 points having three gold, five silver, and eight bronze medals totalling to 16 medals.

The bottom two regions are Central and Coast regions which recorded 81 and 43 points respectively. Central has only four bronze medals while Coast has two silver medals.

Mosoriot TTC posted exemplary results in most of the events.

Khamala Marciline Wanyama was champion in multiple events winning 100 metres where clocking 12 seconds, long jump (5 metres), triple jump (10.67 metres), 200 metres (25:04 seconds), and 4 by 400  metres (4:16 minutes).

In male category, Seith Chepkukutia Tipcho won 400 metres hurdles clocking 3:59:2 minutes, 5, 000 metres (1:59:2), 800 metres, and 10, 000 metres. Below are overall winners in all events.

Institutions like Kericho and Chesta TTC from Rift Valley bagged medals in events like Discuss, Javelin, Shot Put, Pole Vault and High Jump and  Hammer.
