Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu has asked countries to build resilient education systems in the face of crisis, integrate climate change mitigation in the education system and enhance transition both within and outside the education system.
Speaking at the World Forum at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London, the CS said climate change is posing a threat to children, leading to extreme mental health concerns with its attendant co-anxieties.
“Climate change is a proven but an underutilized field to help prepare children with the knowledge for their future,” he said, asking governments and other curriculum developers and implementers to assist teachers integrate climate change education in a simple and realistic way.
By removing the burden from teachers on how to plan, embed and connect climate change education in curricular, he said the world can find authentic solutions in the emerging global catastrophes.
Machogu called for and yearned for a world of quality education that is capable of equipping learners with timeless knowledge that can help resolve issues relating to the environment.
The forum is the largest gathering of education stakeholders from around the globe, bringing together ministers and senior government officials to deliberate on the improvement of education.
