Baringo residents protest after student allegedly assaulted by KFS officers dies in hospital

Stephen Mwangi succumbed to injuries after allegedly assaulted by KFS officials.

Demonstrations have marred the streets of Maji Mazuri town following the death of a Form Three student who was allegedly brutally assaulted by Kenya Forest Service rangers in Maji Mazuri, Baringo County.

Stephen Mwangi lost his life yesterday after days of battling for his dear life at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Uasin Gishu County.

Maji Mazuri Member of County Assembly Solomon Kuria called on speedy investigation to the heinous act by the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) urging immediate arrest of officers involved in the death of the minor.

KFS through its official social media handle flagged the assault complaint that occurred on May 14, 2024 and promised to arrive at the bottom of the matter claiming investigations had been lodged at the nearby police station.

Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Soipan Tuya however regretted the incident saying investigations were underway by relevant authorities to bring justice for the killed student.

Ann Nyaoke has confirmed arrest of five Kenya Forest Service rangers by DCI officers drawn from Koibatek Sub-county.

The Form Three student succumbed at the hospital due to internal bleeding suffered during alleged attack by forest officers.
