Machakos Deputy Governor (DG) Francis Mwangangi has advised parents in the county to monitor their children during the ongoing heavy rains across the country.
He also asked parents who live near rivers to be vigilant especially on their children to avoid tragedies.
The DG said parents should know about their children’s whereabouts and what they are up to.
“I ask parents to monitor their children during the ongoing heavy rains. I want all students to go back to school in good health when schools open,” Mwangangi said on Sunday at Kaiani ABC Church in Kathiani Constituency, advising them to uphold hygiene to reduce chances of getting waterborne diseases that are likely to occur in such seasons.
The DG said the rainy season is associated with waterborne diseases in some areas across the country due to poor disposal of human waste and climate change.
He also advised parents to treat or boil water before drinking to prevent outbreak of diseases due to heavy rains in the country.
