Narok sports chair praises Ongata Barrikoi, Rongena handball teams’ performances

Narok County Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Sports Chair Peter Maritim has praised Ong’ata Barrikoi Boys High located Kilgoris Constituency and Rongena Secondary in Narok West Sub-county for their spectacular performances in regional schools games that were held recently.

Despite losing in the semi-finals of the Rift-Valley Secondary Schools Term One games at Kapsabet High School in Nandi County, the handball teams from the two schools have been lauded for their remarkable performances.

Maritim said that even though they were treated as underdogs by their opponents, they proved that they can do better despite having inadequate training facilities.

“This is the great performances portrayed by these teams and that show that now Narok County is now a sporting hub that need to be watched,” said Maritim, who is also Oltarakwai Secondary School Principal.

Ongata Barrikoi Boys team was eliminated by defending champions Saniak 36-20 while Rongena was defeated by Murundiko 20-14 in girls’ category.

Maritim added that he is elated to lead the two teams to the best four in the regional show since he took over chairmanship of the sports recently.

Ongata Barrikoi Principal Richard Kimeto said that they have learnt the new things as a team and will rectify in future. “We went to the competitions as minnows and we have proved to them that we are able to defeat giants’schools,” said Kimeto.

His Rongena counterpart, Paul Soi said that the games were a real exposure to his team and in future they hope to be handball powerhouse.
