Residents of Kithuri village in Muthambi ward, Maara Constituency in Tharaka Nithi County are still reeling in shock and disbelief after a learner was beaten and castrated by unknown people.

The 12-year-old boy had been sent by her mother to a posho mill at Karigine market to grind maize   when the ugly incident occurred.

The boy was attacked while returning home after completing the errand.

The mother, Ann Kangai, said the boy did not disclose the incident to anybody and carried on as if nothing had happened.

She said the boy went to school as usual but on the second day his teacher noticed some abnormalities forcing him to dig deep into the issue.

“My son never told anybody that he was assaulted after he returned from the market. His teacher noticed some abnormalities when the boy was walking forcing him to dig deeper.

After an intensive interrogation, he revealed what had happened to him. It was then that I was called to his school to pick him and seek medical checkup,” said the mother.

Kangai said apart from the assault, the suspects also stole maize flour and money from the boy before escaping.

She said several health centres had refused to treat the boy owing to the nature of his injuries.

The boy is currently admitted at Chuka General Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

The family and community now want the Government to arrest and prosecute the culprits in a bid to eradicate such incidences in the future.

The residents termed the occurrence as evil and called on security officers to ensure they get to the bottom of the matter.

Elsewhere, in the same constituency, a Kiamwai family in Mitheru is calling for justice after a family friend impregnated their 15-year-old mentality challenged daughter.

The girl says it is not the first time the suspect had defiled her because the man used to drag her to his house when nobody is around or when sent to fetch water alone at River Nithi.
