Governor asks TVETs to embrace innovation

Technical and vocational training institutions in Elgeyo Marakwet have been asked to embrace innovation and technology in a bid to produce competent work force.

County Governor Wisley Rotich said the institutions providing technical and vocational skills should leverage on technological advancement so as to produce global competitive skilled labour force.

Speaking during the graduation of over 900 students at Iten Vocational Training Centre, Rotich urged the institutions to include use of digital space training as marketing tool to enable the youth sell their trade to the world.

“I urge our technical and vocational training institutions to equip trainees with digital space skills to allow them market their skills. Facebook, whatsapp, tiktok and youtube provide good platforms that the youth can use to market themselves to the world,” he said.

He at the same time underscored the need of enhancing skills among the youth as a key driver for development saying the county administration has offered to support the institutions to enable the youth acquire hands on experience and knowledge which will in turn open job opportunities either directly or indirectly.

“My administration will support our 16 VTCs whose current enrolment is 4000 students to ensure that they succeed in training our youth,” added the governor.The sentiments were echoed by CEC in charge of Education and TVETs Edwin Kibor who said, “With the roll out of competency based learning in the technical and vocational institutions, the county is equipping the youth

with marketable skills they need to place themselves at the centre of country’s transformation.”
The graduands received various certifications in welding, garment making, hair dressing, plumbing, and motor vehicle mechanics among other disciplines.
