Teachers have been urged to be role models to the students they teach and show them the right path to follow by practising integrity in their actions and words.
Nakuru County TSC Director Japheth Kariuki said when teachers practise high levels of integrity, the learners will copy them in a way that will transform society positively.
“Teachers are agents of change in the society; they should conduct themselves with high standards of integrity so that they can be good examples and do the right things to mould students to be good citizens,” said Kariuki.
He urged teachers to always handle all learners in accordance with the Code of Conduct that has been laid down regardless of gender.
“Teachers should view students as their daughters and sons; your role is to add value to their life while they are at school,” he said.
The director said any form of immorality or negative behaviour should not be found among teachers because it tarnishes the good image of the profession.
He urged school heads to embrace virtual teaching in order to curb shortage of teachers in schools.
“It’s more economical because a teacher in one classroom will communicate with students in another and they will get the same information at the same time,” he said, adding that a teacher can teach many schools especially where human resources are scarce.
