Zetech University has entered into a partnership with Indian tech-gurus, Christ University, to train students on innovation technologies.
The partnership has birthed a students’ exchange programme that will see Kenyan students attend lecture sessions and gain tech insights from experts in the Bengaluru-based varsity. Bengaluru is referred to as the Silicon Valley of Asia and the tech giant of India.
Zetech Vice Chancellor Prof Njenga Munene said that the exchange programme will benefit the students with international exposure gaining globally competitive skills advantage, hands-on learning tech-experience delivered by Industry experts, enhanced social skills and self-confidence, creating life-long memories, and an experience in Indian hospitality.
Speaking while flagging off the first cohort of students at the University’s Thika Road campus in Ruiru, Prof Munene said that the partnership will give students an innovative mindset and help them improve their academic excellence.
“This inaugural international academic trip is a demonstration of our commitment to ensure that our students are globally competitive. It also contributes to students’ experience, giving them a niche in driving innovation, a tech-future and the creation of digital jobs,” the VC said.

He said that the students will also get a chance to visit renowned tech firms and get first-hand experience on what to expect in the industrial world.
The VC at the same time reiterated that Science, technology and innovation remain the foundation of the Kenya Vision 2030 and as an institution they have a mandate in building a pivotal human capital that will fulfill the development blueprint outlined in the vision.
“Some of the skills that are most sought after now and in the future include enterprise resource planning, Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, Cloud computing, Robotic process automation, Cyber Security, Data Science, Block chain technology, Internet of Things (IoT), Digital Currencies and Digital Marketing & Communications. This is why Zetech University has deliberately chosen to expand its programmes in those areas including journalism and media where there is a lot of convergence,” he said.

Prof Munene added, “Technology has played a pivotal role in hybrid and ODeL modes of study and supporting the platforms through which learners share information, collaborate and study remotely. Our institution has been a pace-setter in online learning and online exam administration,” he said.
He said most businesses are moving online, making the demand for digital competencies such as Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Digital Analytics, Digital Media, AI, Cyber Security and Web Development to be a necessity.
He divulged that the University takes pride in its strong linkages and collaborations with industry experts which provide opportunities for internships, industrial placements, and mentorship programmes.
“Global organisations are relying on Universities to produce skilled manpower that will satisfy the growing need for a tech-savvy workforce. We collaborate with industry experts such as Oracle, AfricaHackOn, Huawei, CISCO and Samchi Group,’’ he added.
“Connecting students with industry leaders opens doors to endless possibilities and paves the way for a rewarding career.”
