Makueni CECM for Education, ICT and Internship Elizabeth Muli has encouraged youth to take advantage of the numerous opportunities in digital spaces that offer self-employment.
The CECM announced that in the recent cohort, 10 of the interns secured jobs in the county government while others were absorbed outside the county.
She noted that among the graduates was only one with disability, saying that many of them are not coming up to partake of any developmental activity.
Muli was speaking during the exit and mentorship programme of the sixth cohort of 100 interns, encouraging people living with disability to apply for the next cohort.
“Some of these opportunities will help youth to do away with white collar jobs, thus addressing high unemployment rates,” Muli said.
She encouraged the graduates to be constructive so that they can become skilled digital developers and good online writers to attract potential employers.
She applauded the county government for having public Wi-Fi centres like Ajiry Centre in Wote town, noting that many have secured employment through the centres.
The only PWD graduate Felix Mutisya encouraged fellow students like him to take advantage of such opportunities when they are announced by the county government.
