Churches asked to actively take part in school programmes

Kipruto Kosgei, Embu CDE, addresses pupils and teachers of Kiamuringa Primary School where he had gone to open a new dormitory.

Churches have been asked to strengthen their participation in school programmes and in the wellbeing of learners and teachers under their stewardship to ensure all round discipline and upright lifestyles.

This was said by the Embu County Director of Education (CDE) Kipruto Kosgei, who warned that shallow participation of the churches in school programmes affects the general standards of learning.

The CDE said this when he held a discussion with a section of the Board of Management (BoM) after opening a dormitory in Kiamuringa Primary School built by the government at cost of Ksh5.4 million.

Embu CDE Kipruto Kosgei cuts tape to open the new dorm that cost the government over 5 million shillings.

“The government presumes that when a school is under sponsorship by a church, the church leadership must take the responsibility to work with the government, teachers, parents and the pupils to ensure issues to do with discipline, academics and even infrastructure are well managed,” he said.

CDE Kipruto Kosgei and school head M. Laicheni launch the new dormitory.

Kosgei called for deeper involvement of the churches in shaping morals apart from ensuring physical safety of learners and teachers.

He noted that with the churches generally viewed as the pillars of general uprightness, issues emerging in schools under their watch generally lead to being partly blamed.
