Absa Bank donates computer lab to teenage mothers’ school in Kajiado

Absa Bank Operations and Technology Team led by acting COO Ruth Kamangere launch the computer lab at Greenland Girls.

The Operations and Technology Team from Absa Bank Kenya PLC has officially launched a fully functional computer laboratory it donated to Greenland Girls High School in Kajiado County.

ABSA acting Chief Operations Officer (COO) Ruth Kamangere said that the donation is part of the bank’s sustainability and citizenship initiatives.

The project is part of the ongoing Absa Kenya Computer for Schools donation programme which the institution has been running for the past two years.

The programme aims to donate 70 computer laboratories; the school was its 65th launch.

The team also donated Ksh500,000 in dry food, diapers and sanitary pads among other items which are estimated to last the school the entire term.

In addition, the team took part in a fruit tree planting exercise to create a mini-orchard within the school grounds to supplement its future nutritional needs.

Greenland Girls enrolls underage teenage mothers from around the country, giving the girls a second opportunity to study while raising their children in the institution.

The school Director Purity Gikunda said that they resurrect the dead dreams of teenage mothers most of whom experience societal stigmatization and discrimination.

Gikunda noted that most girls in the area and beyond are forced to hide their children for fear of being rejected.

The school environment allows them to share, learn, encourage each other and thrive together.

It also provides them with learning materials, boarding facilities and other necessities for themselves and their children.
