Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu has said children from poor families in Kajiado County who are yet to report to school for first term will get support from foregn donors.
The CS said the donors from the US (United States) have offered to support the vulnerable families in the county since it is among counties with majority of students who have not reported back to school.
Speaking on Wednesday in Kajiado North as he attended the opening of a laboratory for Enoomatasiani Junior Secondary School (JSS), the CS said majority of the beneficiaries will be those joining Form One.
With the transition from primary to secondary school in Kajiado County at 93 per cent, the CS noted that out of the thirty thousand students who sat the 2023 KCPE, around ten thousand are still at home.
“The girls who have a problem raising fees will be supported to go back to class; each will receive Ksh50,000,” he added.
Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua, who officially launched the laboratory, threatened to have school heads who turn away students without new uniform sacked.
The DP offered Ksh3 million for construction of more classes in the school, Ksh5 million for Enoomatasiani Girls, and Ksh3 million for Enomatasiani Mixed.
The government will allocate Ksh12.8 billion for infrastructure development in JSS across the country next year.
