Baraton University in Nandi County has dismissed reports that one of their students committed suicide, clarifying that she died of natural causes.
Vice Chancellor (VC) Phillip Maiyo termed the reports untrue and are aimed portraying the college in bad light.
Addressing the press, he noted that a postmortem examination carried on the student’s body indicated she died a natural death.
“We have seen reports about our student who died two weeks ago. As a university, we want to deny reports that the student committed suicide. A postmortem was done and it was confirmed that she died a natural death,” said Maiyo.
Maiyo warned against fake news, further assuring stakeholders that students’ health is their top priority, hence no need for worry.
Deputy VC Shadrack Amunde repeated the sentiments, demanding that stern action be taken against those spreading these base rumours.
“Some people are hell-bent on portraying our university in bad light. None of our students has committed suicide. We want to ask that whoever shared the information should be sought, arrested and arraigned in court so that it can be a lesson to others with such behaviour,” said Amunde.
Academic Affairs Dean Paul Wahonya on his part said the pictures being displayed belong to a student who died in her room two weeks ago.
Wahonya also urged members of public to be sensitive, adding that the university is founded on Christian values.
