Education stakeholders in Kangundo have expressed concerns after the sub-county was ranked last in Machakos county in the 2023 KCSE examinations.
Speaking while distributing bursary cheques, area Member of Parliament (MP) Fabian Muli attributed the low performance to the constant transfer of Principals.
He urged parents to desist from requesting for transfer of teachers whom they do not have a liking to.
“We get good Principals with good strategies and plans that can elevate our performance but I can say for sure that many are the calls I get from locals complaining about teachers and requesting for their transfers. How do you decide a teacher is not good when you haven’t vetted them?” posed the lawmaker.
“Let’s be patient with the teachers deployed to our schools because transferring them is not a solution at all and nothing changes, in fact things move from bad to worse,” he added.
Muli also urged locals to ensure that no child stays at home while they should be in school.
Dorcas Mbevo, Principal of Unyuani Secondary School called for talks and collaboration among stakeholders to improve the education level in the sub county.
She noted that for good results to be actualized there should be concerted efforts from every stakeholder.
Mbeyo also urged parents to encourage their boys to put more effort in education, stating that the boy child is being slowly forgotten and vanishing into drugs and crimes and no one is speaking about it.
