KUPPET says it will demand transfer of teachers from schools harassing them

Kisii Branch KUPPET Executive Secretary Joseph Abincha.

Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kisii branch has threatened to either demand the transfer of teachers or down their tools if parents continue harassing teachers over poor 2023 KCSE results.

Speaking while addressing Mwalimu National Sacco members at Daraja Mbili Secondary School during their Annual General Meeting (AGM), branch Executive Secretary Joseph Abincha termed the practice as barbaric.

“I call upon our parents to stop this shameful practice immediately or else we mobilize our teachers to seek transfers from TSC to take them where their services are welcome,” he said.

Saying that raising education standards and good performance in schools was a collective responsibility, Abincha asked parents to seek amicable ways of working out problems with teachers instead of intimidating and harassing them.

“Teachers are professionals and custodians of knowledge and when parents harass them in public, their pupils lose confidence in them,” he said.

Abincha regretted that until now, there are parents in the county who have given an ultimatum to some schools to transfer from their stations or they will stop educating their children there.

He called on Education CS Ezekiel Machogu to intervene and save the innocent children whom he said are being used to fight teachers.

Abincha lauded the recent Court ruling that stopped the deduction of the Housing levy from workers’ payslips and called for a refund of deductions already made.

He expressed optimism that the Courts will also relieve workers remitting double deductions made on retirement (Providence Fund) and the National Security Fund (NSSF).

The branch Treasurer Jentrix Ogola appealed to teachers to remain dedicated and serve the children but to also speak out when their rights are violated.

The AGM was graced by Mwalimu Sacco Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Isaiah Onyambu among other officials.

Onyambu thanked the members for consistently saving with the Sacco despite the prevailing economic conditions. He urged them to maintain the momentum promising desirable dividends.
