University students laud Gusii elders for their peace initiative

Gusii elders led by former Senator Prof Sam Ongeri when they met to reconcile the county governor Simba Arati and South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro who have been fighting in public.

University Students from Kisii and Nyamira counties have lauded elders from the region for offering to mediate for peace beween Kisii County Governor Simba Arati and South Mugirango MP Sylivanus Osoro.

Led by Willis Osano and Esher Magembe, the.students said without peace development is unattainable.

“We appeal for peace and unity to prevail among our leaders for the prosperity of this region,” Osano said.

The students were speaking in Kisii during their consultative meeting after reading the resolutions that were passed by the elders in their quest to reconcile the two leaders whose relationship is waning each passing day.

Their latest confrontation occurred at Nyakembene Market in South Mugirango which left many people including school children injured.

It was then that Education CS Ezekiel Machogu invited the two for a reconciliation meeting but the governor rejected it.

However, he bulged to Gusii elders and held a consultative meeting that also extended to a discussion of matters development in the region.

The elders, including former Kisii Senator Prof Sam Ongeri, former Bobasi MP Stephen Manoti, and former South Mugirango MP Manson Oyongo, among others, were involved in this peace process.

The elders unanimously chose Dr Stephen Omende Omenge to chair the urgently constituted body for multi-sectoral meetings geared towards reconciling the leaders.
