Carefully crafted funding plan for schools in Kiharu paying off

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro showcases his Kiharu Masomo Bora initiative to stakeholdres in Murang'a town.

A carefully crafted plan to fund education programmes in Kiharu will have a long term positive impact locally as it focuses not only on establishing good infrastructure and availing teaching and learning resources, but also on creating equal opportunities and conducive learning environments for learners from all backgrounds.

Already, Ksh100 million has been set aside for this specific purpose by the NG-CDF this fiscal year alone, the money being strictly used to finance the programmes.

Speaking at a meeting of stakeholders held at Mumbi Grounds in Murang’a town, area MP Ndindi Nyoro pointed out that   the projects mostly aim to provide enabling resources IN public primary and day secondary schools.

These are the institutions where majority of local children are enrolled despite shortage of necessary facilities.

Nyoro showcased the programme, branded Kiharu Masomo Bora, as targeting ordinary primary and day secondary schools in the county, which lack most of the requisite facilitates to enable them to deliver quality teaching like well-established boarding schools.

The lawmaker noted that while these sub-county schools require vital resources,   they have largely been ignored.

He stressed that to support these institutions to offer services like in well-endowed schools, the Masomo Bora strategy comes in handy to tackle the challenges.

The lawmaker, who is the chairman of the budget committee in Parliament, expounded that MPs should allocate resources from NG-CDF to improve this category of schools in their regions for the benefit of learners.

He stated that the programme this year will spend Ksh20 million to provide books, laboratories and related teaching materials demanded by the respective schools.

He said that a huge part of this allocation will be used to fund physical infrastructure like renovation of dilapidated classrooms, toilets, building laboratories, libraries, fixing walkways with gabros and tiling, administration blocks, buying schools buses, improving playing grounds, and other vital facilities.

As a result of these improvements, day schools have become attractive to learners and parents, and their intake has shot up in a short period.

Subsequently, performance in national examinations is improving, with many KCSE candidates attaining quality grades.

Nyoro disclosed that some 15,000 students are benefiting from subsided school fees and feeding programmes in all Kiharu’s 62 day secondary schools.

He pointed out that the initiative aims to transform local day schools to competitive learning centres in readiness for CBC.

In the recent past, MPs from other regions have been visiting the constituency to benchmark.
