Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu. A Chuka Boys student was murdered by his relatives in Tharaka.

A Form Two boy in Tunyai village,Tharaka Constituency in Tharaka Nithi County has died after allegedly being beaten up by relatives, throwing the family into deep mourning.

The 17-year old Chuka High School student Edwin Murithi succumbed to his injuries after the fatal ordeal in the hands of his uncle and cousin.

The beneficiary of Equity Bank’s Wings to Fly sponsorship lived with his grandmother after his mother abandoned him when he was still an infant.

Speaking to the media, his grandmother Kaguna Wanjeru said the boy informed her that her relatives beat him while accusing him of stealing a school bag.

“I was passing near his house when I heard his distress call. He was pleading with me to lift him up from where he was lying down. He had severe injuries and his hands and legs were tied up with ropes,” said the distraught Wanjeru.

But it later turned out that the mother of one of the assailants had carried the bag with her to the market.

The incident has already been reported to the police, and the suspects arrested.

Wanjeru is now asking the government to ensure that justice for the deceased is served.
