KNEC records poor performance in 2023 KCSE papers sat in the afternoon

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has recorded a decline in performance in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE) examinations done in the afternoon.

This was revealed by Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu during the release of the exam results at Moi Girls High School Eldoret on Monday.

He said that the decline is an indication that there was no earlier exposure.

The subjects that were sat in the afternoon include History and Government which recorded a decline in performance for the first time in the history of the examination. It was among 13 other subjects that registered a decline.

Subjects that were previously done in the morning but moved to the afternoon and dropped in performance are History, Geography and Agriculture.

The other subjects are Physics, Agriculture, Computer, Business Studies, Islamic Religion, Power mechanics, Metal work, Wood work, Home Science, Art and Home Science.

However, 12 subjects recorded significant improvements in performance including; Mathematics (for the first time in the history of the examination), Kiswahili, Biology, CRE, German, Music, Chemistry, Building Construction,  French and  Electrical studies.

The total number of candidates who qualified to join the university this year is 201,133 candidates.

Unlike in previous years, candidates will access individual results only through the link on the KNEC website or directly through the URL: www.results.knec.ac.ke.
