Kisii County MP busts plans to subject girls to FGM

Kisii Woman Representative Doris Aburi distributing sanitary towels to girls in Masimba Ward. She warned against subjecting girls to FGM secretly.

Kisii County MP Doris Aburi has cautioned parents who plan secretly to subject their children to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) during the Christmas season, saying she is aware of the clandestine plans and her office will collaborate with the police to arrest the perpetrators.

“We have alerted the police and the Nyumba Kumi groups who will keep an eye on these rogue parents and bring them to book,” she said.

The county MP told parents to direct their daughters to other rites of passage because FGM is detrimental to their lives.

She said FGM is outlawed in the country and anybody who practices it violates the children’s rights.

She was at Masimba Ward in Nyaribari Masaba Constituency where she distributed sanitary towels worth a million shillings to poor teenage girls.
