Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has assured that his Ministry is fully committed to instilling technical skills and competencies among the youth.
Speaking during The Eldoret National Polytechnic’s (TENP) 18th graduation ceremony, Machogu said that the government recognizes the technical and vocational training sector as significant.
He said that Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) rolled out by the government has played a crucial role in nurturing youth’s talents in TVET institutions.
Machogu noted that the Ministry has already rolled out training for trainers who will soon be retooled in various institutions.
He said that they will streamline the TVET sector but encouraged them to generate their revenue streams.
The CS lauded the institution for partnering with industry players and other technical institutions in fulfilling the government’s master plan to align to the 21st century.
While congratulating the 2,692 graduands, the CS reiterated that there was a need for the cohort to pursue further studies to compete favorably with their peers globally.
Chief Principal Charles Koech said that the institution continues to offer competitive training programmes, cutting a niche as an outstanding centre of excellence.
He appreciated the Kenya National Qualification Authority (KNQA) for ensuring TENP attains National Qualification Awarding institution status, terming it a milestone achievement.
Koech praised efforts by KNQA Chairman Stanley Kiptis for his vibrant role in ensuring all TVETs in the country are embraced through frameworks underpinned by the authority to meet relevance in the education system.
He said that Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) was the new frontier adopted by the institution to recognize and award students for their creativity and innovation.
The Chief Principal lauded the State Department of Information, Communication and Digital Economy for partnering with the institution to set up Jitume Computer labs.
