President Ruto heaps praise on CBC as most relevant

President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua arrive in Cardinal Otunga school for the fundraiser accompanied by leaders from the region.

President William Ruto has heaped praise on the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), defending it as the most relevant system of education for any developing nation like Kenya.

Asking every reasonable citizen to support it, he said the government values education more than any other development agenda and reiterated their effort to support all levels.

The president, flanked by his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua and CS for Education Ezekiel Machogu, revealed that the government has set aside 127 billion shillings for this cause, 46 billion of which will be channelled to help university students from poor homes to continue with their education.

Emphasizing the importance of technical and vocational education, the president said the government has slotted 9 billion shillings to the sector to enable them employ more teachers to help bridge the skills gap the country is experiencing.

He was addressing Kisii residents at Cardinal Otunga Mosocho High School in Kisii Central Sub-county where he had to gone to fundraise for the new Mosocho Catholic Parish. More than Ksh90 million was raised.

He was hosted by Kisii Diocese Bishop Okemwa Mairura, who thanked the President for signing into law the NG-CDF Act which increases the kitty to enable children from underprivileged homes to access education.

The education message was repeated by Kisii Governor Simba Arati, who said education is the backbone of development.

He also took the chance to inform the public that his government has constructed 128 ECDE classrooms within one, up from 81 that had been constructed in ten years by the previous regime.

Also present were political leaders from Kisii and Nyamira, among them Sylvanus Osoro, Alpa Miruka, Zaheel Jhandah, Japhet Nyakundi, Innocent Obiri, Charles Onchoke, and Richard Onyonka.
