Kisii County Government has earmarked Ksh 50 million for youth employment initiatives, encouraging university graduates to participate in the Kazi Mtaani programme.

Addressing the public at Daraja Mbili Open Market, Governor Simba Arati urged youths to seize opportunities, emphasizing the importance of taking proactive steps for financial stability in a competitive job market.

“In a world of competition, you have to seize any opportunity available to position yourself in favorable financial stability,” Governor emphasized.

Participants in the program are expected to work for six months, with contract renewals contingent on the availability of funds in the government treasury.

Kisii County Assembly Deputy Jacob Bagaka expressed support for the initiative, highlighting the assembly’s role in passing a bill to bolster the mean budget, ensuring effective implementation of Kazi Mtaani in the region.

The primary objective of the program is to create an enabling environment for youth, building their capacity and empowering them as equal partners in development.

The governor outlined specific tasks under the Kazi Mtaani program, such as road improvement and unblocking terraces to enhance rural transportation.

Arati underscored the significance of involving youth in the design, implementation, and evaluation of development projects, citing their potential to address contextual unemployment challenges in the county.

He called for a shift in mindset within communities, encouraging the empowerment of young people to take charge of their future and reduce reliance on white-collar jobs.

Highlighting the positive impact of youth engagement, Arati urged school leavers to contribute to community well-being by volunteering in climate change mitigation efforts, specifically through tree planting.

He further emphasized the importance of fairness and transparency in employment processes, directing a plea to the County Public Service Board.
