MP calls for KNEC probe amid KCPE exam errors

Shinyalu Member of Parliament, Fred Ikana, has called for a thorough investigation into the operations of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) following reported errors in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.

Speaking in his constituency, Ikana expressed concern that the discrepancies in the results have significantly undermined public confidence in the examinations body.

Addressing the issue today, Ikana highlighted the numerous complaints from both public and private schools regarding inconsistencies in the marks awarded to KCPE candidates.

He asserted that many students had received marks that did not accurately reflect their performance.

“I have a specific case in my constituency concerning Prudence Shalimba, who initially received 358 marks after sitting her examinations at Mukango Primary School. However, after extensive probing and appeals to KNEC by myself and other stakeholders, her scores were revised upward to 409 marks. This confirms that many candidates were unfairly treated,” the MP stated.

He questioned the haste with which KNEC releases national examinations results without conducting a thorough audit of its systems to ensure credibility.

“The integrity of national examination results should be beyond reproach. I suggest that appropriate action be taken to prevent a recurrence of mistakes in this year’s KCPE in the future,” he emphasized.

Ikana announced plans to construct a multi-story learning block at St. Albert’s Shanjero Primary School, marking the seventh such facility initiated in the past year.

He also drew attention to the adverse impact of the current El-Nino rains on infrastructure in several schools within his constituency.

While acknowledging interventions in other regions affected by the rains, he emphasized that Shinyalu and the entire Western region were equally in need of assistance.
