Ministry releases 2024 academic calendar for schools

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has released the 2024 Academic Calendar for pre-primary, primary, secondary schools and Teachers Training Colleges (TTCs).

In a circular dated October 13, 2023, the first term will be a 13-week programme starting from January 8 to April 5, 2024, with a half term break between February 29 and March 3, 2024, a 3-day breather.

In term two, schools will reopen on April 29, 2024 to run until August 2, 2024, a duration of 14 weeks with a 3-day mid-term break from June 20 to June 23, 2024.

Third term will begin on August 26, 2024 and end on October 25, 2024, a period of 9 weeks, to pave way for KPSEA 2024 examinations that will kick off on October 28 and end on October 31, 2024.

KCSE will then take place between November 4 and November 22, 2024, a duration of 3 weeks.

Effectively, the December holidays will be a massive 10-week rest as from October 28, 2024 to January 3, 2025.

For Teachers Training Colleges (TTCs) featuring the Diploma in Teaching Education (DTE), Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) and Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE), the first term will be duration of 13 weeks beginning January 8, 2024 and ending April 5, 2024.

The April holiday will be a 3-week recess starting on April 8 to end April 26, 2024.

The second term will begin on April 29, 2024 and end on August 2, 2024, a 14-week programme that will transit to a 4-week holiday break from August 5 to August 30, 2024.

The third and last term will be an 11-week schedule starting August 26, 2024 and end November 8, 2024.

The December holidays for TTCs will run from November 11, 2024 to January 3, 2025, a period of 8 weeks.
