Parents of Irungu PAG Special Primary School in Kisii County have called upon the Nyaribare Chache MP Zaheel Jhanda to build better facilities for the neglected school.

During a gathering at the school on Wednesday, the parents voiced concerns about leaking roofs and an unfenced compound, exposing their children to security risks.

“These are children living with disabilities, and subjecting them to such harsh conditions only exacerbates their challenges,” a parent Joe Gichana emphasized.

Additionally, the parents expressed their intention to withhold returning their children next year unless the government allocates funds for the construction of proper classrooms and pit latrines.

Frustrated with disputes between the school and neighboring residents, who complain about children relieving themselves in nearby farms, the parents called on Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheel Jhandah and Education CS Machogu to intervene.

“Irungu is the sole special primary school in the area, and so the NG-CDF must allocate funds to support its mission of assisting disadvantaged children,” they underscored.

Seeking alternatives, the parents appealed to the government to facilitate the transfer of affected pupils to well-equipped special schools like Kisii, Gianchere, or Magena.

Former Education Officer Charles Onchangwa highlighted the importance of government intervention in streamlining operations at these learning centers, advocating for ample trained teachers, modern infrastructure, and appropriate learning materials to create a conducive learning environment for students with disabilities.
