KNUT has decried the mistreatment of KCSE candidates by KNEC as the exams draw to a close, saying some of the actions they took in the name of curbing cheating were dehumanizing.

According to Nyamira branch executive Nicholas Nyang’au, stripping candidates naked to get unauthorized materials was going beyond the limits of decency.

‘We do not expect what happened to our children in the last two weeks to continue in this last week of the examinations because it traumatized the candidates,” he said.

Nyang’au sent a stern warning to the Council, saying the Union was keenly watching how the examinations will be marked and appealed for fairness.

He asked the police to probe KNEC to unravel the motive behind the negative attitude towards schools in the region.

The secretary wondered why only candidates in Nyamira County were exposed to extreme searches, attributing it to malicious presumptions by enemies of Nyamira who do not want them to prosper.

Meanwhile, one principal spent a night in the cells last week Thursday because she allegedly failed to report to the police a candidate who had a cell phone in the examination room.

According to police records, Daraja Mbili Secondary School principal caught the student with the phone that he reportedly used to receive examination questions and answers, but failed to report the matter.

It is alleged that the principal talked with the security officer to sweep the matter under the carpet.
