School heads ask KNEC to postpone KCSE for nationwide tree planting event

Kisii Secondary School Heads have requested the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) to postpone Monday’s KCSE exams to accommodate a nationwide tree planting exercise.

The request follows a circular from County Commissioner Tom Anjere, stating that all Deputy County Commissioners will lead the public in planting 10,000 trees across the region’s sub-counties.

“This is a solemn public holiday that should be treated with a lot of concern because it factors in Climate Change mitigations which is enemy number one to beat,” one Principal stated.

Expressing concern, a principal emphasized the significance of the public holiday, emphasizing its role in climate change mitigation.

However, the circular’s contradiction with their examination management responsibilities raises questions.

The Head teachers are seeking clarification from the Education CS on this matter.

“How can the Commissioner invite us to attend the exercise when we are examination Managers in our respective schools?” another Principal asked.

Attempts to reach Kisii County Director of Education Philip Chirchir for comment were unsuccessful.

The tree-planting event’s focal point is Nsaria Hill in Bobasi Constituency, led by CS for Information and Technology, Eliud Owalo.
