Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers in Embu County have received a big boost after the county department of education kicked off training for teachers on digital education.

In collaboration with EDU Kenya, the training will see the ECDE teachers equipped with digital knowledge on how to use the digital gadgets donated by the organization and be better placed to handle pupils in the tech age.

EDU Kenya is a technology-enhanced platform which integrates various high impact interventions into a single, coherent system that is easy to use by teachers, students and government.

The training that will run for 10 days will help them integrate technology and personalize instructions for young learners.

While addressing the media during the official launch of the training, Chief Officer in charge of ECDE Jane Karimi said digital learning provides access to quality education, fostering personal growth and preparing them for the challenges of the digital age.

Her sentiments were echoed by Embu County Director of Education Jeremiah Ireri, who noted that the initiative will help 17,000 children in CBC in Embu to explore the digital learning space.

He noted that the children in the 400 ECDE centres in the county will have a chance to have the same training since lesson planning in the digital device will be uniform in all schools.

Further, he noted that the implementation of the project will reduce absenteeism and increase enrollment.

“Digital learning is the way to go; we thank EDU Kenya for giving our ECDE pupils a chance to move in the right direction,” he said.

Samuel Abong’o from EDU Kenya, who is in charge of the programme in Embu, said other counties that have benefitted from the programme include Kisumu, Machakos, Makueni, Kisumu, Kiambu, Murang’a, Mombasa and Nakuru.
