Residents of Kiharu in Murang’a County have come up with new strategies to boost education fortunes in the constituency.
The issues include inadequate academic resources, out-dated infrastructure, financial constraints, absence of motivational programmes, lack of support for needy learners, and ineffective community participation on the part of area leadership.
Upon realizing these gaps, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has mobilized the parents to address the challenges for the benefit of their children.
Speaking while disbursing bursaries to college students, the legislator said the strategy is out to bear fruit in delivery of quality teaching and learning.
Under the Kiharu Masomo Bora initiative, provision of physical infrastructure aimed at creating a friendly educational environment is part of the plan funded by NG-CDF.
The strategy involves renovation of dilapidated classrooms, administration blocks, toilets, new roofing, tiling, putting gabros, and repainting walls, among others.
Nyoro explained that the initiative also will ensure most needy students in secondary, colleges and universities are assisted through bursaries and scholarships from the constituency kitty.
He said the measures include supporting feeding programmes for students in day secondary schools in the region.
In addition, Ksh10 million has been set aside for remedial teaching in day secondary and primary schools.
