County Woman Representatives in the National Assembly have asked the government to increase funding into their development kitty as the demand for their assistance at the grassroots, including schools, increases.
Led by Kericho County’s Beatrice Kemei, they agreed that the funds in the National Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) should be increased to enable a wider coverage of the needy in society.
Speaking at the Moi Gardens in her constituency during the distribution of assorted equipment and tools worth over Ksh10 million to various groups, Kemei thanked the government for increasing the allocation from one to three billion shillings, though there was need for more.
Kemei urged groups and individuals to apply for funding when they are advertised.
Her Nakuru counterpart Lisa Chelule said the current allocations were far too little for the needs and demands of the locals.
Member for Elgeyo Marakwet Caroline Ngelechei said the needs at the grassroots were overwhelming.
During the occasion, car wash machines, bee hives, sewing machines, tool boxes and wheel chairs, among many others, were distributed among groups.
