Matungulu MP pledges to increase bursary funding to boost education standards

Matungulu MP Stephen Mule speaking during the textbook distribution to area schools

Matungulu Member of Parliament (MP) Stephen Mule has promised to allocate more money for bursaries beginning next year.

Speaking after distributing over 8,000 textbooks to schools in the sub-county, Mule said that the funding will be increased from Ksh45 million to Ksh55 million.

“Next year I will give out over 20,000 books and the bursary money will be increased to Ksh55 million. My call is for every stakeholder to play their part in this sector and we will be able to promote education and place our constituency on the country’s academic map,” he said.

While pledging to work closely with all education stakeholders to improve education standards, he said that he had already met school heads who expressed satisfaction over the proposal to increase the funds.

Acting KESSHA Chair Daniel Muange said the initiative will go a long way considering there are many needy children who have no means to pay tuition fees.

The sub-county Education Officer Rose Musembi said the sub-county is projecting to post a mean score of more than 5 in this year’s KCSE, an improvement from last year’s 4.3.

Matungulu West MCA asked the lawmaker to start a new high school in the Kwa Mating’i area to save students from trekking all the way to Kalandini Secondary School.
