School heads warned against sending students home for fees

Uasin Gishu County Director of Education John Thiringi addressing the press in his office.

Uasin Gishu County Director of Education John Thiringi has warned school heads against sending students home due to lack of fees.

Speaking at his office, Thiringi said that the heads should instead call parents and discuss alternative ways to pay the fees while their children continue with their studies.

“We have asked school heads not to send students home for fees but instead have discussions with parents and agree on when and how they will pay the fees,” he said.

He added: “There are other strategies to mobilize resources for fees. Parents who don’t have money can bring goats, firewood or anything of value that can be used in place of school fees.”

Thiringi also warned Principals against holding any co-curricular activities during the third term saying it was against the law.

“As a Ministry, we are telling our principals and head teachers that in third term, there are no social activities allowed and anyone who will do the contrary will face the full force of the law,” he cautioned.
