The Governor of Kisii County Simba Arati has initiated the “Elimu na Simba” scholarship programme dedicated to sponsoring financially disadvantaged students to access secondary education.

Speaking during his recent State of the County address in Kisii County,  Arati underscored the significance of the County Bursary program, which has been reinstated to provide crucial support to students in need.

He noted that the County has disbursed a total of Kshs. 145 million through this initiative, with each of the 45 wards receiving Kshs. 3 million, as part of an effort to reach all deserving and talented children in rural areas.

The Governor also stressed the importance of empowering students from humble backgrounds to pursue their dreams, a goal that the bursary program aims to achieve.

Additionally, he highlighted that in the current financial year, the County has allocated Kshs. 225 million, with each ward receiving Kshs. 5 million to further assist underprivileged students.

Arati also mentioned that a budget of KShs. 24.4 million has been allocated to various projects, including the construction of 22 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) classrooms, one hostel, and nine pit latrines in different locations across the region.

Furthermore, he mentioned that the county has ambitious educational projects on the horizon, including the construction of 145 ECDE classrooms, 20 workshops in Vocational Education and Training Centers (VTCs), three hostels and pit latrines in select VTC centers, procurement of educational aids and related equipment for VTCs, capitation for Youth Polytechnics, and child-friendly equipment for ECDE centers, all aimed at enriching the learning environment.
