Kisii County Woman Rep. Doris Aburi

Kisii County Woman Representative Doris Aburi has donated more than 200 mattresses, blankets, bedsheets and books to students at St. Anne’s Nyangoge Secondary School where a fire razed two dormitories recently.

Speaking during the handing over of the items on Saturday, Aburi thanked Kisii University and other well-wishers who helped her to procure the items.

She noted that the dormitories, which hosted Form 1 and 2 students, were allegedly gutted due to an electrical fault even as investigations continue.

Aburi asked the girls to ensure they utilize wisely the knowledge they have acquired in school.

“You came to school to be equipped with skills that will enable you to be self-dependent economically and socially,” she said.

The Woman Rep also asked the girls to shun drug abuse and report sexual advances to them by sex pests in order to curb teenage pregnancies which may hamper their education.

She was joined by Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) Kisii Chairperson Joyce Orioki and Catholic Secondary Schools Education Secretary Christopher Osinde who asked well-wishers to donate more basic amenities to assist the students in carrying on with their lives.

School Principal Teresah Masare thanked the Woman Rep for the timely assistance as the girls were preparing for their main examinations.

She assured parents of their children’s safety and called on the area NGCDF Committee to allocate funds to reconstruct the dormitories.

Kisii County Chief Administration Officer Nyabicha assured the school of security adding that his office is working hand in hand with the Police to ensure peace prevails in the area.
