CoG to write to TSC to hasten reversal of teacher delocalization

The Council of Governors (CoG) has said that it will write a memorandum to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) concerning a number of issues affecting teachers.

Speaking during the annual general meeting of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), Kakamega Governor Fernandes Baraza emphasized the need for the TSC to reconsider certain recruitment policies such as delocalization to boost staff morale.

Governor Baraza expressed concern about teachers still serving in other counties and stressed the importance of bringing them back home.

He highlighted the desire for increased interactions between teachers and their communities.

Baraza further assured that this concern was widespread and pledged to advocate for it through the Education Committee, culminating in the presentation of a memorandum to the TSC.

KNUT’s Deputy Secretary-General, Hesborn Otieno, echoed these sentiments and underscored the union’s determination to push for salary increases to help teachers cope with the current economic challenges.

The teacher delocalization policy, which was put on hold in November the previous year, saw 47,000 teachers seeking transfers to their respective home counties.
