Shock as 18 students from Cardinal Otunga Girls suspended over alleged lesbianism

Suspended students leaving the school premises

Eighteen students from Cardinal Otunga Girls High School in Bungoma have been suspended due to possession of mobile phones and engaging in lesbianism.

According to some parents, 14 of them are in their final year, preparing for the upcoming national exams in just few weeks.

The parents revealed that the students had previously faced suspension on September 18 and were subsequently summoned for a disciplinary hearing later in the month.

Additionally, they said that the fallout from the hearing led to an indefinite suspension, with parents being asked to take their children home, awaiting further communication from the school board at an unspecified date.

One parent questioned the validity of the accusations, highlighting the alleged mischaracterization of innocent dance activities during an entertainment session as “inappropriate.”

“They had entertainment during a weekend and were dancing. Has the ministry set up standards on how students should dance?” he asked.

The situation left parents grappling with uncertainty, fearing the potential impact on their daughters’ academic futures as they further expressed deep concern over the psychological toll the suspension was taking on their children.

The School Principal Christine Sifuna did not comment on the matter but the parents, students, and the public await further developments in this perplexing situation.
