Uasin Gishu County has used Ksh92,850,000 to enhance Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) infrastructure and an additional Ksh22 million to provide essential teaching and learning materials to over 10,000 ECDE pupils.
Speaking during the State of the County address recently, Governor Jonathan Bii said that all this is aimed at revamping the ECDE sector.
“The Ksh92M allocation facilitated the construction of 91 ECDE classrooms, 41 ablution blocks, the construction of a kitchen, and procurement of essential furniture and fittings for 6 ECDE centers,” he said.
He added: “My administration has also confirmed 1,274 ECDE teachers on permanent and pensionable terms and the roll-out of the ECDE School Milk Programme.”
Governor Bii said that the conferment has transformed the working environment for teachers, changed their attitudes positively towards teaching, and given them financial confidence and independence.
“The milk programme has not only boosted pupil retention but also improved enrolment rates by 8.6 percent in all our public ECDEs. These have made us an enviable County among our counterparts,” said the Governor.
He further noted that his administration has allocated Ksh33 million towards the construction of administration blocks and procurement of tools and equipment for training for TVET colleges.
“We have also disbursed Ksh119.5 million in bursaries to support over 18,071 needy students throughout our County,” he said.
Governor Bii noted that his vision now is to provide quality skills development and nurture talent in Sports and Arts.
