Bungoma National Polytechnic, formerly Sang’alo Institute of Science and Technology, has initiated a four-day comprehensive training programme for Vocational Training Centre (VTC) instructors in partnership with the County’s Education and Vocational Training department.

The training programme will see more than 100 instructors and education officers receive training on Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) by Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and the Curriculum Development Assessment and Certification Council (CDACC) trainers.

The involvement of dedicated TVET and CDACC trainers underscores the commitment of the county government to empower its teaching workforce.

The opening of the training was officially graced by Bungoma Deputy Governor (DG) Janepher Mbatiany at DICECE Training College in Bungoma.

In her address, Mbatiany said that the county government under Governor Lusaka is working toward equipping ECDE and VTC centres.

She said that it is high time the county issues bursaries to VTC students and empower the tutors, adding that through the training, the trainees will acquire skills required in national and international markets.

“This training is for your own good. It will enable you as an individual to perform well in your duties and also allow you to move from one level to another through promotion,” she said.

The DG also challenged VTCs with a low population to start their own trades in order to attract more trainees.

At the same time, CEC for Education Dr. David Wamamili Wanyonyi asked the tutors to maintain professionalism even as they work to uplift the state of the TVET institutions.
