Trans Nzoia County and Kitale National Polytechnic (KNP) have partnered to promote the acquisition of skilled knowledge among area youth.

Governor George Natembeya had lengthy discussions with the KNP management, led by Principal John Otieno, at his Townhall Office where they agreed on various partnerships and collaborations, especially in support of the boda boda operators and the Jua Kali sector.

He emphasized the need for youth to acquire skilled knowledge citing that there was a wide job market for skilled labour as most employers are seeking personnel who can offer technical skills.

The County boss disclosed that his administration was working on a package programme with KNP to train boda boda operators through the institution’s Driving School to enhance road safety.

Natembeya said that in this arrangement, the institution will offer the programme at an affordable cost with the county government chipping in to support the operators financially.

He further said that the Industrial and Aggregation Park, whose construction is ongoing at the Namandala ADC, will require skilled labour once complete in seven months.

On his part, Principal Otieno said that the institution will prioritize county residents on the Recognition of Prior Training (RPT) Programme for those with skills but no certificates to improve their livelihoods.
