Kisii County Nominated Senator Essy Okenyuri has distributed sanitary towels to Form 4 candidates at Kereri Girls High School to enable them to concentrate more on their studies as they approach the national examinations period.

Speaking while addressing teachers and students on Thursday when she paid them a courtesy call, she promised to continue supporting them during the period and urged them to prepare themselves sufficiently to ensure their success.

Okenyuri appealed to parents, especially those whose children are candidates and days scholars, to ensure an enabling environment during the examination period.

Saying that most students come from poor families, the Senator asked well-wishers to share and provide essential needs for them.

“The African philosophy of socialism compels us to share with the less advantaged in the society so let us provide a leaning shoulder to them whenever the need arises,” she said.

Okenyuri asked parents and teachers to put in more effort towards educating the girl child in order to emancipate them from gender bias.

She said that providing education to the girls will equip them with critical knowledge that will help them to move society from the notion of looking down on the girl child.

“Anything the boy child can do, the girl child can also do it when given the opportunity and equipped with skills to enable her to realize her potential,” she said.

She lauded Chief Principal Tabitha Mogonchi for exhibiting consistent leadership adding that she is now a role model for the girl child.

Mogonchi, who was flanked by his staff, thanked the Senator for the gesture which she said will motivate the girls to work hard in their studies.

She assured the Senator that the school will produce better results in this year’s KCSE examinations because the candidates have been prepared well.
