Migori County Police Commander Peter Kimani has urged parents to ascertain the integrity of religious leaders, especially those with questionable characters, before entrusting their children with them.
This comes after a Pastor from Isebania town, who mentored schoolboys, was among three robbers who were gunned down recently along the Migori-Kisii highway.
“This man was a renowned advisor to male students but apparently he was a wolf in sheep’s clothes,” he said.
According to Commander Kimani, Pastor Ibrahim Mwita, 27, was among nine suspected robbers who have been terrorizing businessmen in Suneka town and its environs.
“Our police officers have been tailing the suspects after they robbed a supermarket in Suneka town at gunpoint two months ago,” he said.
On Thursday, Police officers waylaid the suspects at Kona Mbaya, Kisii County after trailing them for 60 kilometres while on their way to a raid mission targeting businessmen in Keumbu town, Nyaribari Chache constituency.
After a vicious gunfire exchange, the police gunned down three suspects and arrested three but another three escaped narrowly.
The police recovered an AK-47 rifle, a Rambo sword and a machete.
The bodies were removed to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting identification by their kin.
