Chaplain Lawrence Nyaanga has advised incoming first-year students to embrace exemplary lives in society, emphasizing that they are now transitioning to adulthood.
Nyaanga, also the Vocal General of Kisii Catholic Diocese and County Chairman of the National Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), asked the students to build on the character they developed in secondary school and maintain a mature outlook as they enter university life.
Speaking during Kisii University’s orientation week, Nyaanga stressed the importance of students making responsible choices regarding their friendships and maintaining a positive attitude toward life.
He also encouraged them to rely on their faith throughout their academic journey.
Regarding the students’ interaction with the surrounding community, Nyaanga praised landlords who ensured that their tenants were genuine university students by checking their national and university identification cards.
This precaution aims to prevent situations where students rent accommodation but do not attend classes, a problem the university has faced in the past.
